| An Evening With The Daily Show: A Report |

I attended the 'Evening with the Daily Show' thing that Jon Stewart put on for OSU students as a result of none of us getting actual show-taping tickets tonight. It was a forum set up with five participants from the show: Jon Stewart, Ben (exec. producer), DJ Javerbaum (head writer), Sam Bee and Jason Jones. They were interviewed by our Dean of the College of the Arts (whoever that was) and they showed us some field pieces for next week's shows that they'd been taping recently.
They were really into the crowd (particularly Jon who said he wanted to body surf us), and they swore they didn't know the crowd would be that large or they would have prepared something for us. Jon came out and immediately started doing O-H cheers. He then proceded to ask if a buckeye was a gay acorn, which got a lot of booing from the crowd and threats to kick all of our asses from Jon. They talked OSU football for a while, making fun of Minnesota (called them a highschool team because of the 44-0 defeat at our hands) and that team up north, Jason Jones wore a buckeye necklace.
On the back of the stage was a 20-25 foot replica of University Hall (a building here on campus) and Jon asked about it. Later in the show, when the Dean said she was out of water Jon said he'd get her some and started jumping around on stage like King Kong, trying to climb the building and everything. It was great. He then pronounced himself "Dean of Putting Buildings on Stages". I don't think he liked the Arts dean very much. :)
One of the questions read was for each of them to recite their favorite college memory. Sam stated she remembered waking up in her cat's litter box. Jon went on to say he experienced the same, but his cat was "still fucking him". They all seemed really excited to be playing in front of a college crowd, getting into all the youth references, asking about beer pong ("is that where you combine the athleticism of pingpong with the non-athleticism of... beer?"), telling Jason he had to chug before taking his shirt off as the crowd requested. When the question popped up "Why did you come to OSU? What favors were performed for you?", Jon immediately asked if it was appropriate for the Dean to be "making blowjob jokes". Priceless.
Five clips were shown total. A few were older ones that had already aired, such as Sam's exit polling one and Rob's Harvard Maid one. There was an older Stephen Colbert one and two Jason Jones ones that are new. All were great, but the best part was that they had monitors set up for the people on stage to watch. This allowed me to watch their reactions. Jon laughs really hard at everyone else's clips. And they were on stools, meaning his feet were too short to reach the ground and he was swinging them like a little kid. Jason obviously didn't like to watch himself, he would look away and Sam would nudge him. It was cute.
That's about all I can remember. It was just a really good time, and a great opportunity to see them all in a relaxed setting. I don't have tickets for any tapings next week, but I'm going to do stand-by everyday. I walk through the building all the time, earlier this week I made friends with the security guards to get some info, so we'll see if that works out. Yay!
